Rusty Bowers

HOUSE SPEAKER

Russell “Rusty” Bowers was elected by his fellow House Republicans to serve as Speaker of the House for the 54th and 55th Legislatures.

As the head of the House Republican Caucus, Rusty also serves on the leadership team of the Republican Legislative Victory Fund (RLVF), the top campaign arm for Arizona House and Senate Republicans.

With Rusty’s help, RLVF experienced record fundraising in 2020, increasing its revenue by 63% over its 2018 predecessors (the House and Senate Victory PACs).

In 2020, Rusty helped raise $1.5 million to defend our Majority at the state capitol.

Rusty was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 1992 and the Arizona Senate in 1996. After retiring from the capitol in 2001, Rusty was re-elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2014.

In addition to serving as Speaker of the House, Rusty also sits on the House Rules Committee.

Rusty has had an active career in construction, education, and as a professional artist who is well-known for his outstanding talents, skills and diverse artistic ability. Bowers is a classically trained artist, emphasizing in watercolor, oil painting, and sculpting.

A strong believer in a well-rounded education, Rusty attended Mesa Community College, Arizona State University, and Brigham Young University. In 1992, he returned to do post-graduate work at Arizona State University. His education has spanned many years, interrupted by a two-year mission in Mexico, marriage to best friend Donetta Russell of Mesa, and the birth of their seven children.
